Travis Scott is one of his generation’s most influential and successful artists. He is known for his innovative and immersive live shows, genre-bending and chart-topping music, and collaborations with brands like Nike, McDonald’s, and Fortnite.
His last album, Astroworld, was released in 2018 and received critical acclaim and commercial success, spawning hits like “Sicko Mode”, “Butterfly Effect”, and “Yosemite”. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited his next project, which he has teased as Utopia.
What is Utopia About?
In an interview with i-D magazine in 2020, Scott revealed that he was working on a new sound and concept for his upcoming album. He said, “I never tell people this, and I’m probably going to keep it a secret, but I’m working with some new people and just trying to expand the sound.”
“I’ve been making beats again, rapping on my own beats, just putting everything together and trying to grow it. That’s been one of the most fun things about working on this album. I’m evolving, collaborating with new people, delivering a whole new sound and range.”
He also explained the meaning behind the title Utopia, saying, “Utopia is a word that I’ve been using a lot. It’s important right now to show people that there’s hope for a better world. Utopia is something people feel is so far-fetched and out of reach, some perfect state of mind.”
“But you create it yourself. There are people who achieve utopia every day. They may not be the richest people with the dopest cribs, but it’s a utopia wherever they are, and that’s the most you can have.”
In another interview with CR Men in 2021, he elaborated on his vision for Utopia, saying, “With every album, I live in these worlds in my mind — I’m trying to show people experiences where utopian things can exist, and you can enjoy yourself and have a good time.”
“They can create energy that spews out magical things — new cures, buildings, and avenues for people to move forward. People need to see that utopia is real.”
