Mikala Jones, an American expert surfer, died in an accident while surfing off the coast of the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia.
Jones was 44 years old and from Hawaii. His death sent shock waves through the surfing world.
Jones was known as one of the best surfers ever because he could ride broken waves. Soon after his death was reported, people took to social media to pay tribute to him.
Mikala Jones Cause of Death
Mikala Jones, an American professional surfer, passed away after a deadly surfing accident near Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands.
Jones’s daughter Isabella wrote on Instagram on Sunday that her father had died.
“Dad got into a bad surfing accident and didn’t make it,” she wrote.
She also showed pictures of the two of them when they were young.
“I wish you were still here with us, you weren’t supposed to leave yet. This is too soon,” she wrote.

Jones became known as a surfer because he used a GoPro camera to film himself riding giant waves that would tower over his head right before they crashed down.
“Between his countless cover shots and video parts and his mesmerizing GoPro footage, Mikala was easily one of the 21st Century’s most photogenic surfers,” magazine Surfline wrote.
Professional surfers used social media to express their sadness.
Mick Fanning, who has won the surfing world championship three times, wrote that he was “So shattered to hear the news,”
Brian Bielmann, a surf photographer, wrote on Instagram, “He was a wonderful person an incredible artist, his GoPro photos were mind-blowing,”
“We’re gonna miss him so much.”
Jones used to be an ambassador for the clothing company Reef. In a statement about his death, Reef called Jones “a contemporary surfing POV content creator ahead of his time” and “arguably one of the barreled surfers on the planet.”
