American football player Pat Tillman played in the National Football League (NFL) with the Arizona Cardinals. College career:

In 1994, linebacker Pat Tillman enrolled at Arizona State University to begin college studies. He assisted his team in going undefeated during the regular season and reaching the Rose Bowl as a junior. He was selected as the 1997 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Arizona State’s MVP.

Professional Career:

In his rookie season, Pat Tillman, the 226th pick of the “Arizona Cardinals,” a “NFL” team, took over the “safety” position and played in 10 of the 16 games. Out of loyalty to the Cardinals, he declined a five-year, $9 million contract offer from the St. Louis Rams.

He showed the ‘Cardinals’ that he was committed to them, and he committed to play solely for them in the upcoming seasons. He finished the 1999 season with 155 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks, and 9 pass deflections, surpassing all expectations.

‘Sports Illustrated’ gave him a spot on the 2000 ‘NFL All-Pro team. He also distinguished himself among the league’s best young players. In the 60 games he played, he finished the 2000 season with 238 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 12 pass deflections, and 2.5 sacks.

His final campaign on the field came in 2001. The globe was shaken by the 9/11 attacks, which occurred in the same year. He declined a contract offer of $3.6 million over three years from the Cardinals in May 2002, eight months after the September 11 attacks and after completing the 15 games left in the 2001 season that followed the attacks, to enlist in the U.S. Army.

Military Career:

On May 31, 2002, Pat and his brother Kevin enlisted in the military. In September 2002, they both graduated from basic training. They were assigned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion in Fort Lewis, Washington, after completing the Ranger Indoctrination Program in late 2002.

Before being sent to Iraq, he lived at University Place with his wife. The brothers also received their “Ranger School” diplomas in November 2003. He was sent to Iraq at the beginning of 2004. He was initially thought to have been killed by enemy combatants on April 22, 2004.
