Rose Lavelle Career
Lavelle competed for the US at several youth levels. Lavelle was called up to train with the senior United States women’s national soccer team on November 24, 2015. She received her first senior international cap on March 4, 2017, during a match against England at the 2017 SheBelieves Cup.
She was one of the eight players who joined the team’s Victory Tour after the 2015 Women’s World Cup. She was selected Player of the Match after the squad suffered a 1-0 defeat.
Lavelle was added to the national team roster for the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, which served as the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying event, in September 2018.
She scored three goals while playing in each of the U.S.’s five games. Her final goal of the competition came in the opening minute of the championship match against Canada, giving the United States a 2-0 win and their second consecutive CONCACAF title.
At the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, Lavelle started six games for the United States, scored three goals, and was named the Bronze Ball winner as the third-best player in the competition.
Lavelle scored twice to help the Americans defeat Thailand 13-0 in the team’s opening group-round encounter. She was awarded a penalty kick during the U.S. team’s knockout round game against Spain, and Megan Rapinoe successfully converted it to secure the team’s 2-1 victory and advance to the quarterfinals.
In the championship game against the Netherlands, Lavelle scored the United States’ second goal, enabling them to win 2-0. In addition to being voted one of the top three midfielders in the world by her fellow professionals in the 2019 FIFA FIFPro World XI, Lavelle was selected one of the top 11 players in the world by The Best FIFA Football Awards (finished sixth).
