Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, a professor of geology at Western Washington University, made the discovery after estimating the “Swift-quake” at Lumen Field to be 2.3 on the magnitude scale.
“For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm controlled the behavior,” Caplan-Auerbach said in an interview with CNN on Thursday, July 27. “The music, the speakers, the beat. All that energy can drive into the ground and shake it.”
The revelations brought to mind another occurrence that happened at Lumen Field in 2011 when cheering Seattle Seahawks fans were enthralled by a spectacular touchdown by running back Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch.

According to Caplan-Auerbach, the seismic activity associated with the game registered on the same local seismometer as that associated with the Eras concert. “The shaking was twice as strong as ‘Beast Quake,'” she continued.“It absolutely doubled it.”
When comparing action from the Saturday (July 22) and Sunday (July 23) performances, Caplan-Auerbach reported that neither Swiftie crowd was noticeably rowdier than the other.
The only significant difference between the two groups’ dancing was that the second show began around 30 minutes later than the first because of delays.
By the way, not only scientists were aware of the stadium’s record-breaking movement. Even Swift was amazed by the amount of vigor she showed when greeting people, and she later wrote on Instagram, “Thank you for everything. All the cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs.”
Swift will wind up the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour with two performances at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., followed by six concerts at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., after the Seattle gigs are over.
