Phillip Maxwell Smith, 69, of Round O, South Carolina, died on August 8, 2023. Born in Thomasville, GA, Phillip was the cherished son of the late James Maxwell Smith and Elsa Maxine Stephens Smith. There are no official ceremonies yet to be planned for his funeral at this time.

Phillip had a deep appreciation for the arts, enjoying activities like painting and drawing. He also had a keen interest in reading and had a special fondness for collecting antiques, with a particular inclination toward lamps. Beyond his personal interests, Phillip was a co-operator of Empty Bowls, a noble charity organization dedicated to raising funds for local food banks.

He leaves behind his loving partner, James Messina of Round O, SC. He is survived by his daughter, Nichole (Travis) Batchler of Gaston, SC; step-daughter, Danyelle Messina of Chattanooga, TN; and step-son, Dade Messina of Chattanooga, TN.
Phillip’s legacy also continues through his siblings: sisters, Debbie Bird and Rhonda (Tony) Russell, both of Perry, FL; and brother, Dave (Jo) Smith of Fayetteville, TN. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Tyler and Cynthia Batchler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
