Miley Cyrus is preparing a new song to continue her “endless summer vacation” as “Flowers” remains in the high reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 six months after its first release. Cyrus announced on Thursday (Aug. 17) that her latest single, “Used to Be Young,” will be released on August 25.
The singer of “Wrecking Ball” announced the news on Instagram, where she also disclosed some more big plans to her 213 million followers. She wrote in the caption of a strange promotional video:
In celebration of my new single release Endless Summer Vacation (backyard sessions) continues. Aug 24th @ 10pm EDT on ABC. This time with a retrospective interview sharing stories about the first 30 years of my life in honor of U2BY. This song is dedicated to my loyal fans. I love YOU for loving every version of ME. Always, Miley
The promotional video opens with Cyrus sauntering toward the camera in a dazzling red leotard before cutting to clips from her upcoming Endless Summer Vacation: Continued Backyard Sessions.
Despite her relative silence this year, Cyrus has been quietly teasing her new single for weeks. She hinted at the title of the next track earlier this month in the description for the Bangerz 10th Anniversary Deluxe vinyl on her own online shop. On Aug. 15, she took to social media to share a video of a series of posters referencing the lyrics of some of her career-defining singles, including “Wrecking Ball,” “Flowers,” “The Climb,” and “Party in the U.S.A.” She captioned the video.
I know I used to be crazy. I know I used to be fun. You say I used to be wild. I say I used to be young.
“Used To Be Young” is Cyrus’ first new song since the March release of Endless Summer Vacation. That album, her ninth studio effort, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and was also released via Disney+ alongside its own Backyard Sessions. The new Endless Summer Vacation: Continued Backyard Sessions will be available on Hulu the following day.
