Viktor Hovland’s victory at the Puerto Rico Open in February 2020 made him the first Norwegian to achieve PGA Tour victory. His second and third PGA Tour victories came at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in 2020 and 2021, respectively. When Hovland won the BMW International Open in June 2021, he made history by being the first Norwegian to triumph on the European Tour.

Hovland had a solid start to the year 2022, placing in the top five in the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January. The following week, he went on to win the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic after shooting a final-round score of 66 and defeating Richard Bland in a sudden-death playoff with a birdie on the first hole.
Hovland achieved a remarkable feat by moving up to third place in the Official World Golf Ranking as a result of this victory. As he successfully defended his championship at the Hero World Challenge later that year, in December 2022, Hovland once more found himself at the top of his game.
Hovland won the competition in Albany in the Bahamas, joining a select group of players who have done so twice before—a feat that had only been previously accomplished by Tiger Woods.
