8 Passengers” is a popular YouTube family vlog channel. It became famous because it features a family of six talking about their everyday adventures, problems, and big moments. The channel, which was run by Ruby and Kevin Franke, drew people in with its heartwarming family stories and familiar situations.
But as the channel changed, the family’s material and structure changed for viewers to see. This made people wonder what would happen to the “8 Passengers” channel, and they made guesses about why it changed and what that might mean for its future. In this investigation, we’ll look into the story of “8 Passengers” and find out what’s happened since it was first made.
What Happened to 8 Passengers?
Following his wife’s Wednesday arrest, Kevin Franke, the husband of Ruby Franke, the owner of the 8 Passengers YouTube channel, will be caring for his kids.
According to the lawyer Randy S. Kester, Franke’s “urgent focus is just to keep his children together under his fatherly care.” Kevin directed inquiries to his lawyer when contacted by Insider, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Ruby Franke was detained on suspicion of two charges of aggravated child abuse on Wednesday night. That day, a hungry youngster asked a neighbour for help, alerting authorities in Ivins, Utah, a small neighbourhood in Washington County, the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department said.

Ruby’s business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, a therapist whose license was placed on probation, was also taken into custody. Insider has contacted Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke for comments, but neither has returned them.
In recent months, Kevin Franke has largely avoided the spotlight. Whether the pair is still together is unknown. A spokeswoman for Brigham Young University in Utah said the father was an associate professor there until his employment ended earlier this spring.
When Ruby Franke started vlogging about her life as a wife and mother of six kids on her YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, circa 2015, she quickly gained a sizable online following. The channel had 2.5 million subscribers at its height. However, posting on the channel grew sporadic before it was completely shut down this year.
After viewers had previously accused the parents of abusing their children roughly three years prior, Ruby was arrested. People found clips of her threatening to deny Russell and Chad dinner because they were playing rough, denying her youngest children Christmas because of their “selfishness” and “egregious choices,” holding the kids’ breakfast hostage until they finished their chores, and telling them they didn’t deserve personal space as concerning.
The Frankes angrily refuted the allegations and also claimed in an interview with Insider in 2020 that they gave their kids “choices” and that they were merely attempting to instil in them the idea that decisions had repercussions.
Every decision we make has natural consequences, and if we explain them to kids when they behave badly, they learn a lot, according to Ruby. “The child will learn that their decisions have a real impact this way.”
At the time, Franke claimed to Insider that “slanderous videos, portraying us as villains,” were fabricating a negative image of his family.
“When you cut and slice and put it together, you can make even the most saintly person look villainous,” he remarked. They criticize and attack us using whatever excuse they can think of because, in the end, they find our family and our interactions to be uncomfortable. However, the reality is that our kids are being taught how to be independent, and self-sufficient, and how to pursue their own happiness through their own decisions and relationships in life.
