James Wan on Amber Heard’s Role: The part of Her in Aquaman!

James Wan, an award-winning director who is known for his work in the horror and superhero genres, has had a big impact on the world of film. Wan’s thoughts on Amber Heard’s performances have gotten a lot of attention because of all the talk about her roles in his movies. As a director, he has worked with Heard on movies and TV shows like “Aquaman” and “The Conjuring” series.

In this introduction, we’ll look at James Wan’s thoughts on Amber Heard’s parts. He’ll talk about what it was like to work with the talented actress and how her roles changed the way he wanted to make movies.

James Wan, the director of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, responded for the first time to claims that Amber Heard’s part in the movie was “paired down,” as the actress described it.

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur (Jason Mamoa) and Mera’s (Heard) journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm (Patrick Wilson),” Wan told EW recently. “So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one was a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”

The official account of Variety shared a post on Twitter:

Heard said in her testimony during her trial with her ex-husband Jonny Depp, “I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in them, that depicted my character and another character fighting with one another — without giving any spoilers away — and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They simply took a lot out.”

She also stated throughout her testimony that her job was “very pared down.” Trial testimony from former DC executive Walter Hamada seems to support Wan’s assertion.

Regarding Mera’s importance in the movie, Hamada remarked, “The character’s involvement in the story was what it was from the beginning.” It was described as a “buddy-comedy” sequel with Momoa and Wilson serving as “co-leads.”

According to testimony from Heard’s representative, her role was diminished due to “the lack of chemistry between her and Jason.” Deadline questioned Heard about her excitement for the sequel earlier this year, with the benefit of hindsight.

According to Heard, who spoke to Deadline, “Aquaman, that franchise, and the machinery behind it, I’m very honoured, honoured to be a part of that.”

Heard said, “There’s a ton of pressure on these big franchise movies, with millions and millions of dollars at stake, and compromises are part of trying to make it the most successful thing it can be.”

This was in reference to the difficulties faced by The Flash and Black Adam, as well as rumours of reshoots, pandemic-induced release date changes, and now Wan’s own health scare earlier this month.

Producer Peter Safran of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was questioned on the Deadline Hero Nation podcast in July 2021 about whether the online campaign by supporters of Johnny Depp to have Amber Heard removed from the DC sequel ever had an impact on the casting process.
