A Person has been arrested after a sad incident in Hillsboro. On Thursday, September 14th, there was a report of a shooting at a house on A Street. The police from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department went there to check it out.
When they arrived, they found a 22-year-old woman named Katrina Blackburn. She had been shot in the head and had sadly passed away.
The police secured the area and worked with the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office to investigate what happened. They identified a 27-year-old man named James Garrett Lyon II, who also lived at the same house, as a possible suspect.
According to the police, Lyon, who lived in the same place, told them that he was trying to unload a gun when it accidentally went off and shot Katrina Blackburn.
Because of this, he was arrested and charged with reckless homicide (which means causing someone’s death by being careless or dangerous) and for having a firearm even though he’s not allowed to because of past crimes.
The sheriff’s department mentioned that Lyon had been charged with serious crimes in Michigan before.
Right now, as of September 15th, Lyon is in jail, and he can get out if he pays $125,000. His next court date is scheduled for September 28th.
