The divorce between Anthony Anderson and his ex-wife, Alvina Stewart Anderson, has been finalized. On September 14, 2023, according to court documents, the exes declared an uncontested default and signed a separation agreement outlining the terms of their breakup.
According to the papers, the 53-year-old Black-ish actor will be responsible for paying his ex-wife alimony and covering her legal costs.
In 2015, Alvina filed for divorce, claiming the couple could never reconcile their disagreements. She requested spousal support and listed April 1, 2014, as the date of separation in the documents.
In January of 2017, she attempted to have the divorce petition dismissed. They reportedly patched things up, at least according to E! News.
Alvina then filed for divorce once more on March 25, 2022. She said that the date of the breakup was “TBD.” She filed for spousal support and asked that Anthony pay her legal bills at the time.
Alvina wanted all marital assets, including those acquired before the divorce, to be considered “community property” and shared equally between her and her ex-husband. Separate property includes “all gifts and inheritance, all assets, earnings, accumulations, and debts” she had at the time of their marriage.
Anthony promptly responded to her divorce petition by stating that the couple had separated on February 25, 2022, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.
According to the documents, the actor asked for spousal assistance to be postponed until a “future determination” and that his estranged wife would be entitled to such payments. However, he insisted that each side pay their own attorneys’ fees.

The estranged couple chose to sell their home in Encino, California, and divide the proceeds evenly, and the former Law & Order star agreed to pay spousal support to Alvina.
Also, “so that she may secure alternate housing,” the court ordered Anthony to co-sign a 12-month lease with his wife.

Ten years into their relationship, Anthony and Alvina tied the knot in September 1999. They have a 26-year-old daughter named Kyra and a 22-year-old son named Nathan.
Anthony told Parade in December-
My sophomore year [1989], her freshman year, I knew a girl who lived in the apartment, so I went to knock on the door to invite her to this party that me and my buddies were having. My wife answered the door. I was like, “I was coming to invite Stacey to this party we’re having.” Stacey didn’t show up, but my wife did—and we have been together ever since that night. And I was just me: I got there early, she didn’t see nobody else, she was, “All right, I’m gonna rock out with this dude!” We got married on our 10-year anniversary. She’s quiet, I’m loud. Opposites attract.
