With the most recent season, which is set in the icy darkness of Alaska and where the sun practically never shines, Jodie Foster and Kali Reis join the ranks of earlier case solvers like Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Mahershala Ali, Taylor Kitsch, Colin Farrell, and Rachel McAdams.
This is the first season without the original series’ creator Nic Pizzolatto in the driver’s seat, with Issa López serving as showrunner, writer, and director of all episodes. He’s on board as executive producer, but this time he’s playing a more passive creative role.
The official name of this season is “Night Country.” The eight guys who run the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear without a trace as the long winter night comes in Ennis, Alaska.
Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to face the darkness they harbor within them and delve into the haunted secrets that are buried beneath the perpetual ice in order to solve the crime.
The final season of “True Detective” debuted in 2019 with Mahershala Ali at the helm. Mahershala Ali’s leadership helped the show win back the favor of most critics following a heavy-handed Season 2, which lost many viewers due to its depiction of the industrial wastelands of downtown Los Angeles.
Mari Jo Winkler, Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak for Pastel, Chris Mundy, Alan Page Arriaga, Steve Golin, Richard Brown, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, and Nic Pizzolatto are among the executive producers. Producers include Sam Breckman, Cathy Tagnak Rexford, and Princess Daazhraii Johnson.
