Who is the real Tara Singh, played by Sunny Deol in Gadar?
The plot shown in the 2001 film “Gadar” is based on real people. In the movie, the character of Sunny Deol, ‘Tara Singh,’ goes by the name Boota Singh in real life. However, Tara Singh transports Sakina Madam from Pakistan to India in the movie’s plot, whereas Boota Singh does not.
Boota Singh served in the British Army and fought for India. Boota Singh reportedly participated in the Burmese Civil War when it first started. In reality, Boota Singh hails from the land of Punjab, India. With the division of India and Pakistan in 1947 came the beginning of their love story. Boota Singh met Zainab.
The Real-Life Love Story
Boota was approached by Zainab, who was being harassed and needed assistance. He helped her escape problems. As Zainab had nowhere to go, Boota Singh kept her at his home, which is when the locals began to protest her presence. They suggested that either they get married or Zainab should be transferred to a refugee camp.
Zainab and Boota had two different personalities, with a huge age gap. As Zainab learned about Boota’s intentions, she grew fond of Boota.
She then said that she wanted to marry him. Tanveer was the name of the couple’s daughter after their marriage. But their tragic love story ended when the government ordered Zainab to return to Pakistan, forcing Boota to leave his home and travel there.
Boota converted to Islam and took the name Jamil Ahmed at the Jama Masjid in New Delhi to save his love before illegally crossing the border into Pakistan.
But he was rejected by Zainab’s family, who, therefore, handed him over to Pakistani authorities. Boota also failed to present his case in court in Lahore.
Boota was imprisoned in Pakistan for entering the nation without authorization. But if Zainab had shown up to recognize him, he could have been rescued. Zainab refused to comply with family pressure and left him.
Boota consequently committed suicide. He jumped in front of a train on February 16, 1958, before his five-year-old daughter.
Boota killed himself because he could no longer bear the suffering. In contrast to the film’s narrative shown in 2001 Gadar, Zainab divorced Boota Singh after succumbing to familial pressure.
