Why Did Daris Rucker and Beth Leonard Divorce?

Beth Leonard and Darius Rucker announced their divorce on July 11, 2020, after 20 years of marriage. Darius wrote on Instagram:

“Beth and I would like to share that after much reflection we have made the decision to consciously uncouple. We remain close friends and parenting partners and continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Our priority will always be our beautiful family. We have so much love in our hearts for each other and will continue to encourage growth and expansion in one other. Please be kind as we take on this journey, and we thank you for your love and support always.”

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin popularized the term “consciously uncoupling,” coined by psychotherapist Katherine Woodward Thomas, in 2014. It is, according to Woodward Thomas, “a proven process for lovingly completing a relationship that will leave you feeling whole, healed, and at peace.”

They first communicated in 1998. Beth was working for VH1 in New York while Darius was in town with his band Hootie and the Blowfish. The “Wagon Wheel” singer told The Boot that she initially rejected him but later accepted to date him. Beth allegedly contacted Darius from his hotel room and asked if he wanted to see a Broadway musical.

The couple married on December 9, 2000, and their first child, Daniella, was born the following year. They then welcomed Jack, a son, in 2005. Carolyn, the artist’s rumored daughter from a previous relationship with ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Ann Phillips, was born in 1995.

Beth’s a strong woman. It takes a strong woman to be married to a musician, especially a musician who was drinking and partying as hard as I was, and I think life for us is where we are now.
