David A. Arnold, a comedian, actor, writer, and producer who led two Netflix comedy specials, was a writer/producer on Netflix’s Fuller House revival and developed the Nickelodeon sitcom That Girl Lay Lay, passed away on September 7, 2022. He was 54.

The Arnold family confirmed his death in a statement:

It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our husband, father, brother and friend, David A. Arnold. David passed away peacefully today in his home and doctors have ruled the cause of death due to natural causes. Please keep our family in prayer and respect our privacy at this time, as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss.

Arnold began his career as a stand-up comedian, appearing at the Montreal Comedy Festival and on Comedy Central’s Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza, among other ventures.

We are shocked and incredibly saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend and creative partner, David A. Arnold.

Aside from the statement that Arnold died of natural causes, we don’t know much about the causes of how he passed away. For reasonable reasons, Arnold’s family may wish to keep some things private. Following his death, his family was not the only group of people that openly mourned him.

Following Arnold’s death, both fans and professional comedians expressed their condolences. Comedian Chris Spencer, a close friend of Arnold’s, told NBC News that the comedy community “mourns the loss of one of the greatest to ever do it.”

He went on to state that Arnold was “admired by his peers, respected by other veterans, and revered by the burgeoning comedians that he mentored. He will me deeply missed, especially by his comedy fraternity.”

Another Twitter user commented, “RIP David Arnold. He was on his way up. Finally seeing his years of hard work come to fruition. Praying for Julie and his daughters.”
