Dorothy Hoffner Obituary

104-year-old Dorothy Hoffner of Chicago, who attempted to break the record for the oldest skydiver, has gone away. On October 10, 2023, at the Brookdale Lake View Senior Living Community, she passed away peacefully. Joe Conant, a close friend of Dorothy’s, described her as vivacious and intelligent.

She attempted a tandem skydive on October 1, 2023, falling 13,500 feet in an effort to beat the previous record for the oldest skydiver. She didn’t only do it to set records; she did it because she liked skydiving. She died calmly while sleeping, thus it appears that she died naturally.

Joe Conant is attempting to have her posthumously recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest skydiver in the world. In early November, there will be a memorial service for Dorothy Hoffner, who is recognized as a role model.

Dorothy Hoffner’s legacy

When Hoffner went skydiving for the first time at the age of 100, she made it plain that she wasn’t doing it to garner attention or break records, but rather just because she thought it sounded like fun.

She loved it so much that she did it once more four years later, setting a record for the oldest tandem skydiver ever. On October 1, 2023, Hoffner broke the record and her daring leap captured the attention of the entire world.

Hoffner was a resident of Brookdale Senior Living in Chicago at the time of her two jumps when she made friends with a caretaker who assisted her jumps. She was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. before she retired.
