One of “Texas Metal”‘s highest-rated reality programs on Discovery. On November 7, 2017, Motor Trend TV presented the debut episode of the Velocity program. Since then, the show has continued to grow year after year, and as of January 18, 2023, it is airing its most recent sixth season.
The crew will return with a new collection of incredible works in the upcoming season. The previous season included a variety of cars, including Cadillacs and Willys Jeeps. The projects that are chosen for the show—despite the fact that the company works on numerous ideas—rely solely on the producers.
Is Tim Donelson Still on Texas Metal 2023?
The future episodes of Texas Metal won’t include Tim Donelson because he left Ekstensive Metal Works in 2022. The fact that Ekstensive Metal Works shop, which serves as the show’s backdrop, is a real-life custom automotive shop based in Houston and was established by Bill Carlton on the property where he grew up and where his father had his own shop is one of the things that makes Texas Metal so entertaining to watch.
This gives Texas Metal its genuine edge, but it also means that the show’s cast tends to vary as the shop’s actual employees come and leave over time. The shop foreman, Tim Donelson, is one of the real-life Ekstensive Metal Works positions that are essential to making sure the shop continues to produce high-quality creations as well as that the show is enjoyable and instructive to watch.
Since the very first episode of the program, Tim Donelson has been a part of Texas Metal (and has been employed by Ekstensive Metal Works for even longer). Tim was frequently in charge of ensuring that all of the projects stayed on track in his capacity as shop foreman.
You might be shocked to learn that Tim will no longer be a part of the program after leaving Ekstensive Metal Works in 2022. On November 28, 2022, Tim posted on Instagram that he was leaving the store and the show. Although he did not disclose many details about his future plans in this article, it did restate that he was parting ways amicably.

Why Did Tim Donelson Leave Texas Metal?
In his statement announcing his departure, Tim Donelson omitted to specify his reasons for quitting the show. Tim probably just needed some time and space to concentrate on his own projects outside of the show, though, given that we know he departed on good terms and has continued to live out his passion for creating custom cars and trucks after he left.
Tim wouldn’t be the first enthusiast for television vehicles to discover that the filming of this type of program interfered with their actual shop restoration efforts. In fact, other mechanics like Edd China of Wheeler Dealer and Aaron Kaufman of Fast N’ Loud both departed their shows for related reasons.
Tim Donelson’s New Job
Tim now works full-time for Timmy John’s Machining and Fabrication alongside John Villarreal-Vega, another well-known member of the Texas Metal cast. This business offers a wide range of custom CNC machine services and goods, including everything from emblems, trophies, and plaques to custom car parts.
What Tim Donelson Has Been Up to Since He Left the Show?
Tim added that he was “excited to start this new adventure” when he first announced his split from Texas Metal, but he did not provide any other information about what this adventure would involve.
Nearly a year later, we realize that the creation of Timmy John’s company has been the most significant aspect of this adventure. Fortunately, Tim hasn’t simply been concentrating on business since he left the program, as evidenced by his social media profiles.
Soon after he left Ekstensive Metal Works, Tim went on a brief trip to Paris. Since then, it appears that he has been dividing his time between his large animal welfare programs and new construction.
