He played college football for Colorado State until the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him 137th overall in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He was a member of the team from 2000 to 2007, during which time he became a key defensive player. He and the Steelers won Super Bowl XL at the end of the 2005 NFL season.
From 2008 to 2011, he played with distinction with the Arizona Cardinals. Before putting his cleats away, he played one more season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012. Although he was not chosen for any Pro Bowls, his induction into the Colorado State University Athletics Hall of Fame honors his athletic accomplishments.

Clark Haggans Professional Career
Haggans was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. When the team released longtime starter Jason Gildon in 2004, he started to play regularly as a left outside linebacker. In 2004, Haggans had six quarterback sacks, and in the regular season in 2005, he had nine.
In Super Bowl XL, Haggans was second on the Steeler’s defense in tackles and had a sack to help the Steelers defeat the Seattle Seahawks. Haggans attained unrestricted free agency status in 2008. Haggans and the Arizona Cardinals reached a one-year contract agreement on March 26, 2008.
His season came to an end on December 19 when he was placed on injured reserve due to a foot injury. The Cardinals would make it to Super Bowl XLIII without Haggans, but they would lose to his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-23.
Haggans, an unrestricted free agent in the 2009 offseason, was re-signed by the Cardinals on March 17 to a three-year deal. He would finish the season with 74 tackles, 5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 16 games. In 13 games in 2010, he recorded 47 tackles, 5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.
In order to adopt the Pittsburgh Steelers style defense at Arizona, Ray Horton, who had been appointed as the new Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator, met together again in 2011. On June 5, 2012, Haggans re-signed with the Cardinals for a 12-month period.
Haggans and the San Francisco 49ers reached a one-year contract agreement on September 2, 2012. The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVII as the 49ers concluded the 2012 NFL season with an 11-4-1 record.
