“What finally pulled me out of my shell the first time was that I fell in love,” he once said. “I met a woman, an actress — Debi Mazar— at a movie screening toward the end of 1993 and was just so incredibly completely smitten that it was like boom, I’m back!”
He continued, “It was so powerful; it was a gift,” adding, “I would be all funky and dark, but she was able to just say a bunch of stuff to me, like ‘Come on! Up, up, up, up!’”

Family Details of Paul Reubens
Reubens Rubenfeld was born in Peekskill, New York, in 1952 to Paul Rubenfeld. His parents, Milton and Judy Rubenfeld, ran a lamp store in Sarasota, Florida, where he was nurtured in a Jewish household.
His mother worked in education. During World War II, his father, an auto salesman, served in both the American Army Air Forces and the Royal Air Force of Great Britain.
After the war, he became one of the first pilots to join the Israeli Air Force. He was one of five Jewish pilots who engaged in illegal air combat with Arab forces. Orthodox Jew that he was.
Luke, a dog trainer, and Abby, a lawyer and board member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee, are Reubens’ two younger siblings.

On July 30, 2023, Paul Reubens passed away at the age of 70. On Monday afternoon, the Pee-wee Herman Facebook page posted a message confirming his passing. It read:
“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness.”
“Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”
It is still unknown what kind of cancer Reuben had.
