Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, is currently the subject of criticism for buying a Ferrari. The megachurch pastor was seen in pictures over the weekend driving a $325,000 fancy vehicle, prompting numerous Twitter jabs.
Michael Alan Westen shared a post on Twitter:
If this isn’t the perfect argument to tax churches, then there isn’t one. Joel Osteen and his Ferrari. pic.twitter.com/EGBL4uWI9W

Regarding the images above, one of them (the top right picture in the meme above) was first published on an Exotic Cars Flickr page in 2010. According to a representative for the Exotic Vehicle Life Flickr account, the image was taken in Coral Gables, Florida, just next to the upscale vehicle dealership The Collection.

They sent us multiple pictures, none of which showed Osteen, and claimed to have seen the car, which they thought was a bespoke order, at another event.
“I saw the car on another occasion at an event, no Joel Osteen was seen,” the representative claimed.
It’s also important to note that this meme includes images of two distinct Ferraris. As mentioned above, one image depicts a customized Ferrari in Florida in 2010. In the other image, a Ferrari is seen in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2013. The second image looks to have come from the following video:
In addition to the fact that this video was not shot in Houston, Texas, where Osteen resides, but rather in Switzerland, it also shows that the driver at the end of the clip is not Osteen. It doesn’t matter that in 2018, an associate pastor at Osteen’s Lakewood Church faced backlash for purchasing a $200,000 Ferrari for his wife.
As these images gained popularity, several rumors regarding Osteen’s wealth were spread on social media. For instance, one widely circulated tweet asserted that Osteen was worth more than $40 million, that he resided in a $10.5 million house, and that his Lakewood Church had gotten $4.4 million in PPP Covid-19-relief loans. In general, these assertions are accurate.
There is, however, a small distinction that deserves attention. Osteen does have a house in Houston with an estimated value of $10 million, and his Lakewood Church did get a PPP loan for $4.4 million.
However, assertions of Osteen’s net wealth are merely guesses. Osteen’s net worth estimations ranged from $40 to $100 million, proving that they are merely educated guesses.
