Kyle Richards Speaks About Her Separation on Watch What Happens Live

After taking a deep breath, Kyle Richards talked candidly with Andy Cohen about her decision to separate from her husband, Mauricio Umansky.

“It originated from me,” she explained to the Watch What Happens Live host and Bravo CEO, before discussing how her family dealt with the shattering news about the popular Real Housewives of Beverly Hills couple, who have been married for 27 years and announced their separation in July to much surprise.

“When the news first came out, it was really, really devastating,” Richards said of the social media reaction and subsequent speculations speculating on what caused the breakup. “The whole family. Our phones were blowing up. My kids were just crying, and wouldn’t leave the house. It was really, really difficult.”

“But now they’re much better and they’re really strong,” she said of her four girls (Farrah Brittany Aldjufrie, Alexia Simone Umansky, Sophia Kylie Umansky, and Portia Umansky). “They’re just so together and so smart. They’ve been my best, best, best friends. And I could not be more proud of them; they’re just amazing human beings, thank God I have them.”

Richards stated that she and Umansky are still living together, but in different rooms, with Umansky in the primary bedroom.

Richards also addressed romance rumors surrounding her connection with musician Morgan Wade. Morgan, who appeared on WWHL alongside former RHOBH star Teddi Mellencamp, was described as “absolutely one of my best friends in the world, as well as Teddi.” Richards stated that she met Wade on Instagram and that she, Wade, and Mellencamp became very close.

“If she didn’t have all of those tattoos, people would not say that. I’m with my friends all the time and they don’t pay attention… although they did say this about us, too,” Richards remarked, pointing to past, similar conjecture about her tight friendship with Mellencamp.

Richards also reacted to Umansky recently being spotted holding hands with his Dancing With the Stars partner Emma Slater, as he participates in the reality dancing competition’s current season.

“I was taken aback,” said Richards. “That was very hard to see.”

“I just don’t think you hold hands like that,” she said. “I don’t know if anything has happened yet, but obviously there is something there. I love him very much and we are very amicable, but that really hurt me.”

She stated that’s why she deleted an Instagram post promising her support for his being on the program this week, but she did vote for him.

“My husband and I were very, very happy. It’s not fake” she said of their marriage, which has been portrayed on Bravo for years. She also shot down the unearthed, show-infamous film of a clairvoyant, Allison DuBois, forecasting trouble in Richards’ marriage back in season one: “We really had an amazing marriage for a very long time.”

Richards is back as a main cast member on RHOBH for the 13th season, which started last night ahead of her appearance to WWHL and will address her marriage throughout the season.
