Where Did Samantha Woll’s Funeral Services Take Place?
On Sunday, October 22nd, mourners gathered for the funeral of a synagogue president. As the Detroit community and loved ones gathered at the Hebrew Memorial Chapel in Oak Park, Michigan, Woll was recognized as more than just a local leader.
Woll’s “infectious smile” and ability to make others feel at ease, connecting the neighborhood, were remembered by loved ones, who spoke through tears and laughter. Woll’s sister, Dr. Monica Woll Rosen, remembered her sister fondly and described her as the sweetest, most kind human being.
Woll Rosen went on to say of her late sister:
Your soul was beautiful and pure. You loved with all your heart. You never said no but how can I help? You so deeply wanted peace for this world. You fought for everyone regardless of who they were or where they came from. You were the definition of a leader. Our world is shattered without you.
Mourners recognized people from other religions attending the service as a symbol of Woll. Nessel was among those who praised Woll’s dedication to interfaith harmony and her sense of fairness to all.
Family, friends, and coworkers spoke about her nature while laughing and sobbing. They made fun of her dietary allergies and the fact that she would remove her garments when someone complimented them. Her family and friends also paid tribute to her on social media.
The Anti-Defamation League’s state chapter in Michigan tweeted, “As we mourn her tragic passing, we urge the community to refrain from speculation and allow law enforcement to gather facts.”
