The paths of Byron and Erin, two lovers, collided in the most NASCAR-like manner imaginable. It was at the Martinsville Speedway where their narrative took place during the 2019 high-stakes NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. This wasn’t just any race, though; it was a crucial event that marked the start of their romance.

Erin Blaney shared a post on Instagram:

As luck would have it, Ryan Blaney, Erin’s brother, was also competing in that race and was still chasing the championship. But a few hours prior to the race, Ryan learned of an unexpected development: his sister Erin and William Byron were developing a romantic relationship. For the Blaney family, it was an unexpected turn of events on an already stressful day.

Ryan chose to gently convey the news to Erin via text rather than telling William Byron right away. He told her he loved William and that he had no regrets about their connection. With the knowledge that his girlfriend’s brother was aware of their developing affection, William Byron raced on, adding another level of interest to the race.

William Byron’s Career

After seeing a stock car race on television when he was six years old, Byron developed an interest in racing. In 2006, he went to a race at Martinsville Speedway. When he was a teenager, he started racing on the iRacing simulator. He has over 100 victories and 298 top-five finishes in online competition.

He and his father looked for ways for Byron to begin racing real vehicles offline in 2012. That year, at the age of fifteen, he began racing Legends, which is comparatively late for modern drivers. He finished first in the Legend Car Young Lions Division that year with 33 victories.

In addition to competing in Legends, Byron signed with JR Motorsports’ late model program for 2014. Byron raced for JRM at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet.

At Hickory, Byron finished second in points to teammate Josh Berry despite only winning once and finishing in the top five eleven times.
Byron inked a contract with HScott Motorsports, a Liberty University-sponsored team, to compete in the 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East alongside Justin Marks.

In addition, Byron kept competing for JR Motorsports in late models. Byron finished seventh in his first-ever K&N East at New Smyrna Speedway in February. At Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Byron won the second race of the season after starting second and leading the entire 152 laps (two laps more than the planned total).

At Lucas Oil Raceway in July, Byron made his debut in the ARCA Racing Series while driving the No. 55 Liberty University Toyota Camry for Venturini Motorsports. Byron led 120 laps and came in second.

He finished first in the K&N East and went on to win the series title. Additionally, Byron and his team participated in the Sonoma and Phoenix 2015 K&N Pro Series West races, placing fifth and second, respectively.
