Home Town’s Erin and Ben Napier have relocated to Laurel, Mississippi, to continue purchasing and restoring historic buildings. Erin is a full-time artist who formerly worked in corporate graphic design. Ben is a skilled craftsman and historian. Erin’s interior design expertise and Ben’s woodworking expertise are combined in their series to aid families in purchasing and remodeling older homes.
When they are not building houses, the pair runs Laurel Mercantile, a downtown Laurel boutique that sells expensive, American-made heirloom products. Erin and Ben decided to build a cutting board and countertop manufacturing to boost the area’s economic growth. Helen and Mae, the couple’s daughters, are in charge of several things. As a result, we will explore Erin Napier’s illness as well as a variety of other things concerning her.
Erin Napier Illness Report
Even though Erin Napier had been experiencing symptoms since 2004, it took doctors a decade to diagnose her perforated appendix. Make Something Good Today, Erin and Ben’s book describes their experiences throughout this tough time. Erin first endured bouts of fever and abdominal pain, which steadily worsened.
Erin and her husband released a memoir about their disease history in 2018, and she spoke to one media outlet about the painful event the same year.
“It was a really sad, scary, and confusing ten years,” Erin said. Erin recalled that her health issues started when she was 19 years old. According to the patient, “in the beginning, it would be 24 hours of terrible stomach pain and a low-grade fever, and then it would disappear.”
Because they were perplexed by the discovery, they suggested she consult a different surgeon. Doctors uncovered the cause of the highly rare condition during a second surgery: a perforated appendix. For years, the organ has been bursting and then repairing itself. A partial rupture occurred when it first happened to me when I was 19 years old.

Erin Napier Suffers Panic Attacks
Erin Napier speaks frankly about her mental health issues nearly a decade after her long struggle with an undisclosed illness.
The 36-year-old HGTV star shared an open update on her health on Instagram. The Home Town actress captioned the photo, “This time of year, I feel the anniversary of illness so acutely. These hospital photos were taken in 2014, at the end of my 10 year illness from (unknowingly) a perforated appendix.”
The post included two images of the actress with her family in the hospital, as well as two pages of excerpts from the book she and her husband/co-star Ben Napier penned many years ago. “For a long time, I thought I had put that all to bed with that final surgery, and I wrote about that decade in our book, Make Something Good Today.”
Although she claims that her “appendix has been gone along with the physical suffering for 8 years now” the actress stated, “I’ve been learning through conversation with my friend who is a therapist that it left some deep ruts in my neuro pathways that have left me with an extreme fear and preoccupation with sickness, nausea in particular, ever since.”
Erin Napier Experienced Throat Surgery
In May 2022, Erin Napier revealed on social media that she had been admitted to the hospital for surgery. She took a selfie with Rodney and captioned it, “Staying tonight in the hospital after a throat procedure, and feeling so cared for by an old friend,” and shared it on Instagram.
She added that she knew one of the hospital employees through a familial connection. Napier avoided revealing her throat troubles in this post, and it wasn’t until January 2023 that she did so in depth.
If you watch “Home Town” on HGTV, you know that the local of Laurel, Mississippi frequently takes viewers behind the scenes during programs. The mother of two eventually revealed her hospitalization on Twitter, detailing her appearances in various episodes.
Napier tweeted in advance of this and future episodes, “I was hospitalized with an abscessed tonsil during this block, so this episode and several others are about to have me with a weird voice and super puffy faced from IV steroids.” Sadly, Napier had to tape the show while recovering from an injury. The gifted designer must continue to work.
