Devon Wylie, a 2012 Chiefs fourth-round selection who saw limited success as a receiver and return guy in the NFL, passed away at the age of 35. Wylie’s collegiate football team, Fresno State, verified his passing. The cause of death remains undisclosed.

Before attending Fresno State, Wylie played at Granite Bay High School, where he was born and reared in the Sacramento region. Following a rookie campaign with the Chiefs in which he returned punts and kickoffs in addition to catching six passes, he made a brief appearance for the Titans in 2013.

The Cardinals, Steelers, Seahawks, 49ers, Rams, Raiders, and Falcons were among the teams he briefly played for throughout his NFL career. Dene Ogles, Wylie’s sister, provided HuffPost with a family statement confirming the news.

It read, “Words cannot describe the heartache we all feel as a result of Devon’s passing. Devon was a devoted son, grandson, brother, uncle, teammate, and friend. He touched so many lives as a result of his love for the Lord and his special talents on and off the field.”

After posting a video of Wylie singing and playing the guitar, Dyer wrote, “😢 It’s with a very heavy heart that I let you know that we lost one of our musicians in our San Diego community. Devon Wylie, guitar player, and singer who frequented The Local PB open mic and 710 Beach Club open mic, amongst other locations, has passed away…Thank You, Devon, for playing for us time and time again. You are already missed.”
