Invincible Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
Season 1’s climax is flashed back, but this time, we follow Omni-Man after he flies away from Earth. Nolan sailed into space without a direction and tried to kill himself by getting sucked into a black hole.
At that moment, a Thraxan ship nearly enters the abyss, but Omni-Man saves it and returns it to Thraxa, where the Thraxans implore him to stay and defend them.
In the present, Mark meets “Emperor” Nolan, and after some tension, father and son hug. Mark is still upset with his father, including the recent deception that brought him to Thraxa, so the moment is brief.
Mark attempts to fly away after a tantrum, but he’s too far from Earth. Nolan begs Mark to listen to him about the Thraxan situation. Still, when Mark learns that Nolan has a new Thraxan wife (Andressa) and a developing Thraxan son, Mark’s half-brother, the explanation takes a sinister turn.
Return of the Mauler Twins! Mauler produces a new clone after Angstrom Levy’s explosive experiment in Episode 1 kills his original. The clone Mauler knows he’s the clone because his Two-Face disfigurement makes the “original” obvious. The hierarchy is obvious, so Mauler mayhem begins.
Mark rescues Andressa and his half-brother in Thraxa’s caves. Though his half-brother is maturing slowly, he discovers that Thraxans live one Earth year on average. After Nolan saved her ship, Andressa fell in love with him.
They bond so well that Mark fights Lucan, the giant Viltrumite soldier, to protect his dad’s new family. Mark feels overwhelmed until his dad protects him from Lucan, who is much nastier than Nolan.
Nolan disembowels Lucan with a karate chop and runs him through with a stalagmite after a fierce fight. Omni-Man and Invincible gear ready to fight the other two soldiers.
Viltumite General Kregg (Clancy Brown) visits Mark. Mark can join the Viltrumite dominion after the fight, according to Kregg. When Mark refuses, Kregg ruthlessly and explains that Nolan will be executed for defection, and Mark will prepare Earth for a peaceful takeover as the new Viltrumite agent. If not, Viltrumites will destroy billions of humans on Earth.
Mark is wished luck and bleeds into Thraxan dirt. End credits scene: Two-Face Mauler betrayed and poisoned by clone. The clone stands over his dead twin and says, “Sometimes things are the way they are for a good f***ing reason.” Physical confirmation of an original is a deal-breaker. That should mean a return to the Mauler Twins recipe!
