One of the most infamous serial killers in history, Ted Bundy, is still remembered for his horrific acts. Bundy, who was born on November 24, 1946, preyed on young women and committed unspeakable acts of violence during the 1970s, terrorizing the United States.
He was able to avoid suspicion for a while because of his charisma and charm, which concealed a sinister truth. But in the end, justice was served, and Bundy was apprehended, tried, and put to death. Ted Bundy has passed away. On January 24, 1989, he was put to death in an electric chair in Florida.
Is Ted Bundy Still Alive?
January 24, 1989, was the date of Ted Bundy’s death by electric chair. “When Ted Bundy first laid eyes on the electric chair inside the execution chamber at the Florida State Prison, he jerked back, looking startled,” Sararens recounted in The Daily Beast 30 years later.
“I watched, along with 41 other witnesses, as one of America’s most notorious serial killers was strapped into the wooden chair, known by the macabre nickname of ‘Old Sparky.'”
Who Was Ted Bundy?
Theodore Robert Bundy, an American serial murderer who lived from November 24, 1946, to January 24, 1989, abducted, raped, and killed numerous young women and girls in the 1970s and maybe earlier.
He eventually admitted to 30 killings carried out in seven states between 1974 and 1978, following more than ten years of denials. His actual victim count is uncertain.
When kidnapping victims, Bundy frequently used charm to mask his deadly intent. He continued to use magic in interactions with police enforcement, the media, and the criminal court system in an effort to uphold his innocence.
His standard method was to approach a woman in public and entice her to a car parked in a more private area, where she would be handcuffed, beaten, unconscious, and driven to another location to be brutally raped and killed.
Bundy was detained and imprisoned in Utah in 1975 on charges of attempted criminal assault and aggravated kidnapping. He was then named as a suspect in a growing number of states’ unsolved homicide cases.
In the face of murder accusations in Colorado, Bundy staged two spectacular escapes and carried out additional attacks—including three murders—in Florida prior to his eventual capture in 1978.
He was found guilty of three counts of capital punishment in two trials for the Florida killings, and on January 24, 1989, he was put to death at Florida State Prison in Raiford.
He was “a sadistic sociopath who took pleasure from another human’s pain and the control he had over his victims, to the point of death and even after,” according to biographer Ann Rule.
“The most cold-hearted son of a bitch you’ll ever meet” is how Bundy once characterized himself; lawyer Polly Nelson, who was on his previous defense team, concurred. “Ted was the epitome of callous evil,” the author said.

How Ted Bundy Was Finally Caught?
Ted Bundy confessed his horrifying acts to his lover over the phone following his apprehension.
“The force would just consume me,” he told her. “Like one night, I was walking by the campus and I followed this sorority girl. I didn’t want to follow her. I didn’t do anything but follow her and that’s how it was. I’d be out late at night and follow people like that…I’d try not to, but I’d do it anyway.”
Even though Bundy’s actions eventually resulted in a multi-year murderous rampage throughout multiple states, he was still able to elude prosecution on numerous occasions, such as the successful jailbreak in Colorado and subsequent flight to Florida in 1977 (which was actually his second escape that year; the first had involved jumping out of a courthouse window and going undetected for four days).
Perhaps the last straw in the proverbial coffin was Bundy’s stay in Florida. He broke into the Florida State University Chi Omega sorority house on January 15, 1978, killing two young women, wounding two more, and maiming a third a few blocks away. There was just one more victim after that horrifying attack before he was apprehended.
After harassing the Tallahassee campus for about three weeks, Bundy abducted 12-year-old Kimberly Leach from her Lake City, Florida, school. He murdered the girl, and her corpse was dumped in Suwannee State Park.
Bundy was apprehended in February 1978 by a Pensacola police officer who deemed Bundy’s automobile to be a little too odd to ignore. Bundy gave the police a stolen driver’s license in addition to the car’s pilfered registration plates. After killing for years, Ted Bundy was apprehended.
