From the late 1940s until the 1970s, he was a member of the tennis circuit, as well as the Tennis Grand Masters tour in the 1970s and 1980s.

He won three singles titles at Antwerp (1951, 1956, and 1953) and reached the fourth round of four Grand Slam tournaments: the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open (twice each).
