Heche was raised in a very religious setting by her conservative Christian parents; she compared this to being “raised in a cult” at a later time. Anne Heche’s Personal Life
While Anne has primarily dated men, such as the late comic Steve Martin, she was famously in a relationship with comedian Ellen DeGeneres from 1997 to August 2000. Years later, when discussing the reasons her relationship with Ellen did not work out, Heche asserted:
“I broke up with her because her goal was to have a lot of money. Mine was to find love, and hers was, “I want $60 billion,” Good, good luck. Our forks are never going to meet. Heche was seen battling with firefighters while being taken into the ambulance and sitting upright on the stretcher during her removal from the accident scene. Not long after, she passed out.
Heche was brought to West Hills Hospital’s Grossman Burn Center for specialist burn center care after receiving emergency care at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Heche’s agent stated on August 8 that the actress was critically ill, in a coma, and needed medical care for her accident-related lung injuries. The spokesman added that earlier reports claiming Heche was in “stable condition” were “inaccurate.”
On August 11, the spokesperson stated that, in line with Heche’s stated desire to be an organ donor, she was being maintained on life support while doctors assessed the extent of her anoxic brain injury and whether or not to donate her organs.
A few hours later, Heche was pronounced brain dead, but she was kept on life support to determine the viability of organ donors and find recipients. At the time, Heche was deemed legally deceased by California law.
It was revealed on August 14 that an organ donor had been located and that day’s operation would involve donating her body. Hospital employees honored Heche with an honor walk in observance of her organ donation.
Her public relations representative declared that evening that she had been “peacefully taken off life support.” Her death was judged an accident by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office, which listed “sternal fracture due to blunt trauma” as an “other significant condition” and noted “inhalation and thermal injuries” as the cause of death. On May 14, 2023, Heche’s cremated remains were scheduled to be buried in a mausoleum at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
