As a freshman in 2014, Ferguson did not play a single game for Louisiana Tech. He had 12 appearances (five starts) in 2015 and finished with 35 tackles, six sacks, and an interception. With 14.5 sacks in a single season in 2016, he was a sophomore and set a new school record.
Ferguson recorded 38 tackles and seven sacks in 2017 as a junior. In 2018, he went back to Louisiana Tech for his final year. With 17.5 sacks that season, he set a new school record not only for sacks in a season but also for career sacks.
During the 2018 Hawaii Bowl, Ferguson not only became the NCAA FBS career sack leader, but he was also voted the game’s winning team MVP. The National Football League withdrew Ferguson’s invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine in February 2019 following the discovery of his 2015 misdemeanor simple battery conviction.
