NFL Coaching Career
Following his graduation from Wesleyan, Belichick accepted a $25-a-week position as head coach Ted Marchibroda’s assistant with the Baltimore Colts. He joined the Detroit Lions in 1976 as an assistant special teams coach.
The following season, he started working with tight ends and wide receivers. Bill started as an assistant special teams coach and defensive assistant with the Denver Broncos in 1978. He was a member of the New York Giants in 1979 and began coaching linebackers in 1980.
The Giants won the Super Bowl in 1987 and 1991 after Belichick was hired as their defensive coordinator in 1985. Bill’s defensive strategy from Super Bowl XXV is honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
