The renowned singer died on January 10, 2016, beside his family in New York, aged 69, after battling Liver cancer for 18 months. His official Facebook page announced the news late Sunday.
According to a statement to admirers, “Jan. 10, 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Soon after, Bowie’s son Duncan took to Twitter to confirm the news, writing, “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”

His supermodel wife Iman, their kid Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra, and his son Duncan from his first marriage to Angela Bowie survive the “Starman” singer.
During his more than 40-year career, he recorded 25 albums, including Blackstar, which was released last Friday, his birthday.
Bowie began playing music at the age of 13, first on saxophone and later in a number of London ensembles. He made his debut appearance on the music charts in 1969 with the legendary tune Space Oddity, which told the story of the imaginary astronaut Major Tom’s voyages.
Hunky Dory (1971) included the classics “Changes” and “Life on Mars,” but it was The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972) that catapulted him to stardom.
With “Fame,” (1975), a collaboration with John Lennon featured on his album Young Americans, Bowie broke through with American listeners. “Let’s Dance,” “Heroes,” “Rebel, Rebel,” “Modern Love,” “Life on Mars?” “Starman,” and “Suffragette City” are among his other hits.

Bowie was also a successful actor, appearing as an alien in The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), the goblin king Jareth in Labyrinth, and the lead in The Elephant Man on Broadway in the 1980s.
