Frank Farian Cause of Death
At the age of 82, Farian passed away in Miami on January 23, 2024. Farian disclosed that he had undergone heart valve replacement surgery in 2022, even though his cause of death was not immediately informed.
In November 2023, he also stated to Bild, “My heart valve works wonderfully. Mick Jagger also received the same heart valve. I have a good pig in me! And I’m very grateful for that.”
But after the surgery, Farian’s condition worsened, according to the UK daily The Evening Standard; he lost a lot of weight and was now in need of a wheelchair. In the meantime, 69-year-old Ingrid “Milli” Segieth, Farian’s ex-partner, revealed to Bild that she had visited Farian in Miami during the New Year.
Frank Farian’s Career
He recorded a rendition of “Mr. Pitiful” by Otis Redding and released it as “Frankie Farian” in April 1967. He entered pop music after landing a recording deal as a solo artist and made an appearance on the TV show Hitparade.
Farian’s German translation of Dickey Lee’s “Rocky” achieved gold certification in 1976 and remained at the top of the charts for four weeks. German magazine “Popkultur” ranked his 1973 single “Was kann schöner sein?”, a German translation of the Lynsey de Paul/Ron Roker song “When you’ve Gotta Go,” among the Top 100 all-time “Schlagerlieder.”
Under the nickname Boney M, he recorded “Baby Do You Wanna Bump” in late 1974. This song, a version of Prince Buster’s 1967 hit “Al Capone,” was released as a single and on the album Take the Heat off Me in 1976.
He assembled a group that featured female dancer Maizie Williams, frontman Bobby Farrell, and vocalists Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett. His most tremendous commercial success was as Boney M., with hits including “Daddy Cool,” “Rivers of Babylon,” “Rasputin,” and a reworking of “Mary’s Boy Child” that were popular throughout Europe and beyond. Farrell lip-synced to Farian’s vocals during performances, just as he would later with Milli Vanilli.
