How Did Moaning Myrtle Die?

While Moaning Myrtle was a Hogwarts student, she was killed by the Basilisk that Tom Riddle controlled. Myrtle was a Ravenclaw who had been hiding in the girls’ restroom to avoid being found out by other pupils, according to the Harry Potter Wiki.

Myrtle was crying in one of the restrooms when she heard a man’s voice. When she went out of the cubicle to face him, she met the Basilisk’s gaze, which quickly murdered her.

It’s unclear if Riddle sent the Basilisk after her on purpose. More likely, Myrtle became his first victim because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Myrtle Was Around 14 When She Died
