Disney has announced that the sequel to the beloved animated film “Moana” will be released in theaters on November 27, 2024.
The much-anticipated announcement was made by Disney CEO Bob Iger during an appearance on CNBC, shortly before the business revealed its fiscal earnings for the first quarter of 2024.
The decision to develop “Moana 2” for the big screen follows early plans to produce it as a television series.
However, after seeing the amazing early footage, Disney’s leadership, led by Iger, determined that Moana’s next journey would be released in cinemas.

“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” said Iger, who is excited to offer more of Moana and Maui’s storylines to fans all around the world.
In this forthcoming installment, Moana and the demigod Maui go on a new journey, accompanied by a cast of new characters known as “unlikely seafarers.”
Moana, Maui, and their companions go on an epic adventure across the vast oceans of Oceania, prompted by a message from her ancestors, encountering hardships beyond any they have ever faced before.
The original “Moana” film was a global hit, grossing over $680 million at the box office. Its success prompted not just the creation of this animated sequel, but also talk of a live-action adaptation starring Dwayne Johnson, who played Maui.
While Auli’i Cravalho is likely to return as Moana’s voice in the sequel, her involvement in the live-action film will be limited, as she will serve as an executive producer and participate in the casting process.
“Moana 2” is set to present a journey that is both familiar and full of new wonders, directed by Dave Derrick Jr. and including music from Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow, as well as contributions from original “Moana” composers Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina.
Fans are encouraged to watch the teaser and prepare for a return to the magical world of Moana and Maui, which promises another wonderful trip when “Moana 2” hits theaters in November 2024.
