Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Augusta University, passed away on February 22, 2024, near a lake on the University of Georgia campus. She was hurt badly, and police quickly arrested 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra as the main suspect.

Ibarra was caught the next day and is now in jail. The police used video from security cameras and other evidence to connect him to the crime. Laken and Ibarra didn’t know each other before; it seems he just took the chance to commit the crime.
