Brian Williams, the current host of MSNBC’s prime-time show ‘the 11th hour’ has announced that he will be leaving the NBC Network at the end of this year.

Early Career

Brian started as a CBS new reporter early in 1981. He then shifted to the NBC Network in 1993 as a correspondent. He was entrusted with his prime-time show ‘NBC Nightly News’ in 2004.

Successful management of this talk show led him to become the most-watched news anchor of the decade.

The Scandal

In 2015, an investigation was carried out against some of the claims made by Brian Williams. He had, during a news show, claimed that the helicopter he had been in while covering Iraq was about to be sabotaged by terrorist missiles. Also, the investigation uncovered some other exaggeration done on his part.

He had to apologize live for the errors he had made. Thereafter, he stepped down from his position as the host of the ‘NBC Nightly News. He moved to the MSNBC channel, serving as a news anchor.

Here, he was able to change his image, getting an altogether new outlook. According to Vanity Fair in 2017, “Most broadcasters would have been cooked if they had undergone the sort of scandal that Williams faced in 2015.

But a slow-and-steady revival — a mixture of dutiful penance, clever planning, and a dramatic change in the media — has Williams turning 11 p.m. into the new primetime.”

The 11th Hour

At the helm of his new show in 2016, MSNBC’s 11th hour, he was able to bring a flavorful mix of politics and commentary on the latest news.

Although he is now leaving the show when his contract ends in December, he has asked the audience in a statement on Tuesday to continue watching the show, “I ask all those who are a part of our loyal viewing audience to remain loyal. The 11th Hour will remain in good hands, produced by the best team in cable news”.

Reason for Leaving

The reason he has outlined is that he wants to spend some time with his family. “For the next few months, I’ll be with my family, the people I love most, and the people who enabled my career to happen,” he said. “I will reflect on the kindness people have shown me, and I will pay it forward.”

A person close to Brian Williams admitted that NBC had offered another contract to the host but he had declined.

The Future

Brian Williams reviewed his career on NBC Network as a medley of “28 years, 38 countries, 8 Olympic games, 7 Presidential elections, half a dozen Presidents, a few wars, and one SNL”.

He feels that there is a lot to do after his exit from the network, saying “This is the end of a chapter and the beginning of another. There are many things I want to do, and I’ll pop up again somewhere.”

He was grateful to the entire team at NBC and MSNBC.and said that the network” is a part of me and always will be”. He made several friends out of colleagues over the 28 years spent at the network.

They supported him and he, in turn, felt grateful towards them. “Good friends were in great supply at NBC,” Brian Williams said on Tuesday. “I was fortunate that everyone I worked with made me better at my job. I’ve had the best colleagues imaginable. That includes great bosses.”
