Central Florida might not have been a better starting point for a comeback. Warren referred to Charlottesville, Virginia, as “ground zero for hate that is bred in the country,” and that’s where filming began.
St. George, Utah, Granbury, Texas, Jackson, Mississippi, and Sussex County, New Jersey followed; the exact order of the occurrences is unknown. As the queens make their journey through Florida, they stop in Kissimmee on route to Orlando, where a shooter massacred 49 people at a gay nightclub named Pulse in June of 2016.
The Pulse nightclub was attacked, and Warren said, “One of our drag kids is a victim.” The controversial “Don’t Say Gay” statute in the state is a common thread throughout the plot. That he could change so drastically surprised me.
He woke up to find that some of his buddies had passed away. The time in his life when he decided to start fresh and join this program was crucial. That’s right, he really is an extraordinary human being.
