On April 10, 1952, Steven Frederic Seagal was born in Lansing, Michigan. He relocated to Fullerton, California, with his parents, Patricia and Samuel, when he was five years old. He went to Buena Park High School in Buena Park, California, and then from 1970 to 1971, he attended Fullerton College to further his studies.
When he was younger, he started learning martial arts and took up aikido and Shito-ryu karate. At the age of seventeen, Seagal made his first trip to Japan, encouraged by an amiable Japanese coworker at a Garden Grove dojo.
