A lot of Americans are set to receive a $1,300 stimulus payment as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
However, not everyone will get one of these checks.
Who’s Getting These Stimulus Checks?
The Minnesota Department of Revenue is making sure people who didn’t cash their tax refund checks last year get this money.
They’re sending out $1,300 to folks whose refund checks weren’t cashed and have now expired. Around 128,000 people should expect these one-time payments by mid-March.
Do You Qualify?
You might be eligible if you were among the 2.1 million who got a tax refund last year but didn’t cash your check. Here’s what you could get:
- Couples filing together with incomes up to $150,000 could get $520.
- Single filers with incomes up to $75,000 could get $260.
- Plus, there’s an additional $260 for each dependent, up to three.
Some families with five dependents might even get up to $1,300.
These checks are a way for the Minnesota Department of Revenue to support local communities financially. And good news, these checks won’t be taxed by the state.
If you think you should get one but don’t by May 1, reach out to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

Tracking Your Stimulus Check
Wondering where your check is? The IRS has a tool called Get My Payment where you can check the status.
You’ll need to provide some personal info to use it. The IRS updates it daily to keep you in the loop.
Why Might Your Stimulus Check Be Delayed?
- If you’re higher income, you might have to wait a bit longer since lower-income folks are prioritized.
- If the IRS doesn’t have your current bank info, that could hold things up. They use your most recent tax return to send your payment.
- Sometimes banks mess up the deposit.
- If there’s confusion about dependents (like with unmarried parents), that could also delay things.
Keep an eye on the Get My Payment tool and contact the IRS if you’re expecting a check but haven’t seen it yet.
