Patti Lupone Calls Out Maskless Theatergoer in the Audience (Latest News)

Theater etiquette is once again being taught by Patti LuPone. Following a performance of her blockbuster musical “Company,” the 73-year-old Broadway diva was captured on camera yelling at a maskless theatergoer.

There were over 200,000 views on Twitter as of Wednesday morning when the video was shared by another audience member. The video has since been reposted numerous times.

“Put your mask over your nose, that’s why you’re in the theatre,” LuPone can be heard lecturing the bare-faced patron at the beginning of the 30-second clip.

When confronted by COVID-19 back in February, the two-time Tony winner lashed out, saying: “That is the rule. If you don’t want to follow the rule, get the f–k out!”

As LuPone continued, the audience erupted in applause. “Who do you think you are? That you do not respect the people that are sitting around you!”

But the woman in the audience who wasn’t wearing a mask didn’t take LuPone’s scolding lightly. She yelled back, “I pay your salary!”

“Bulls–t! Chris Harper pays my salary!” the Broadway icon raged in response, referencing the name of “Company’s” producer.

It’s not the first time that LuPone has let her temper get the better of her onstage; in 2009 at a performance of Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed “Gypsy,” she famously gave a patron a tongue-lashing for taking photos.

Throughout a performance of “Shows for Days” in 2015, LuPone approached a theatergoer who was texting during the show and snatched their phone.

The theatre legend later told Playbill, “We work hard on stage to create a world that is being totally destroyed by a few rude, self-absorbed, and inconsiderate audience members who are controlled by their phones.”

As a result of her decades on Broadway, LuPone has earned the title of “Broadway diva.” In 2002, she reportedly threatened to leave the comedy “Noises Off” after having a “harrowing hissy-fit.”

“Sunset Boulevard” producer Andrew Lloyd Webber notoriously fired the performer in 1994.

After suing Lloyd Webber for $1 million, LuPone used the money to install a swimming pool at her Connecticut estate.

The sarcastic star named it “The Andrew Lloyd Webber Memorial Pool.” Stay tuned with us for more such content only on
