James Corden is speaking out about his restaurant behavior. In an interview to promote his new Amazon Prime show Mammals, the 44-year-old host of “The Late Late Show” spoke out about what Balthazar owner Keith McNally said.
McNally, who is 71 years old, banned Corden from the restaurant on Monday, calling him “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.” In a second post a few hours later, he said that Corden had “apologized profusely” and that the ban was lifted.
“I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level. So why would I ever cancel this [interview]? I was there. I get it,” the host of a late-night talk show said in an interview that came out on Thursday. “I feel so Zen about the whole thing. Because I think it’s so silly.”
“I just think it’s beneath all of us. It’s beneath you. It’s certainly beneath your publication.” During the interview, which took place at a different restaurant in New York, a woman at a table nearby sent back her eggs.
Observing the situation, the comedian commented to the NYT’s journalist: “Can you imagine now if we just blasted her on Twitter? Would that be fair?” “This is my point. It’s insane,” Corden said.

In McNally’s original, pointed message on social media on Monday, he said he didn’t want to be president “86 a customer, to today I 86’d Corden. It did not make me laugh.”
The restaurant owner went on to talk about how the “funny man” treated his staff the two times Corden ate there. He said James Corden had done the same thing at McNally’s old restaurant, Cafe Luxembourg.
McNally said that the first story happened in June when Corden was at table 61 and found a hair in his food. “Although this is diabolical, it happens Very occasionally in all restaurants,” McNally wrote.
He alleged that once Corden done eating his main course, the “TV personality showed the hair to Balthazar manager G. who was very apologetic. Corden was extremely nasty to G and said: ‘Get us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all of our drinks so far. This way I write any nasty reviews in yelp or anything like that.'”
In another alleged incident from earlier this month, McNally said that James Corden was complaining about his wife’s food.
McNally alleged, “That’s when James Corden began yelling like crazy to the server: ‘You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelette myself!'”
He said that the server was “very apologetic and brought G. over to the table. He returned the dish and after that, everything was fine. He gave them promo Champagne glasses to smooth things out. G. said that Corden was pleasant to him but nasty to the server. ‘ M.K. was very shaken but professional that she is, continued to finish her shift.'”
The next day, McNally said he was “feeling strange” after he called out Corden on social media, banned him from his famous New York City restaurant and then let him back in.
“On the one hand, he was definitely abusive to my staff, on the other hand, I feel really sorry for him right now,” he stated in an Instagram photo of himself with his daughter, Alice and her best friend, Margot Paisner, at Balthazar.
He proceeded, writing “like most cowards I want it both ways,” before concluding “F— it, I’m going to get drunk.”
