Early Life of Dolly Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton, the fourth of a total of twelve children, was born in Sevier County, Tennessee, in 1946. Her dad grew tobacco for a living. She recalled that her father gave the doctor who assisted in her birth a bag of oats as payment. Her early appearances were often at church, where music had always played a significant part.
Parton made her TV debut on The Cas Walker Show when she was only 9 years old, and she soon after signed with the modest Louisiana label Goldband Records. In 1964, the day following Dolly’s high school graduation, she uprooted her life and headed for Nashville. Very soon, she was able to establish herself as a successful composer.
