GILFORD, N.H. — On New Year’s Day, an armed resident of Gilford was shot and killed by a police officer.
Attorney General Formella said that people from the AG’s office are investigating the incident.
At about 10 p.m., Gilford police officers went to 5 Varney Point Road to check on a report of a person with a knife. The person who lived there was inside, and the officers first tried to tase the person. A second officer shot the person not long after.
The person’s name is unknown because the next of kin have not been told. This week, there is going to be an autopsy. No officers were hurt in the incident.

The officers’ names won’t be public until the investigation is over. Before the autopsy is done, no more information will be given out.
