What Is the Plot of The Little Mermaid?
The official synopsis for The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Studios read:
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid’s plot is not that mysterious. To a significant extent, the film’s plot is expected to remain faithful to the animated version, as has been the case with all of Disney’s past live-action remakes. The teaser already hinted at Ariel’s infatuation with the human world through the use of the iconic song “Part of Your World,” in which Ariel expresses her desire to participate in the world above the ocean, or the human realm.
As Ariel and Prince Eric work through their compatibility issues, fans will get a front-row seat to their blossoming romance.
Who Are The Little Mermaid’s Voice Actors?
In October of 2019, Daveed Diggs, best known for his performance in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, joined the cast and will supply the voice of Sebastian the crab.
In June 2019, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay were added to the cast; Tremblay will provide the voice of Flounder, and Awkwafina will provide the voice of Scuttle. Scuttle, originally a male seagull will be recast as a female diving bird so that she can participate in underwater scenes.
