Several people have been killed in a shooting in downtown Louisville that happened early in the morning. Local authorities say that the shooting happened in a very crowded part of the city, where several people were killed or hurt. Multiple Casualties Reported in Downtown Louisville Shooting
Four people were killed, including at least two friends of Governor Andy Beshear, and eight others were injured when a shooter opened fire at a bank in downtown Louisville on Monday, according to authorities. Two responding police officers were also injured, one critically, by the shooter, who was described as a current or former employee of Old National Bank, authorities said.
Soon after the 8:30 a.m. ET shooting at 333 E. Main St. began, and the assailant was killed, according to Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the shooter died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted wound after the responding officers and the gunman exchanged gunfire, according to the police.
While telling reporters that two of the dead and one of the injured were friends of his, Governor Andy Beshear fought back tears. Beshear declared, “This is terrible,” adding that his attorney general campaign headquarters were housed there in 2015. “I have a very close friend who didn’t make it through the day; I have another close friend who didn’t either; and I have a friend who is in the hospital who I hope will pull through.”
According to a federal law enforcement source who has been briefed on the attack, the shooter is thought to be a worker and may have had mental health issues. According to Humphrey, two officers were hurt, one of whom required immediate surgery and the other of whom suffered a non-life-threatening wound.

Two of the injured, including the officer, were listed in critical condition when they were taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, according to Humphrey. Humphrey stated,
“We think this is a lone gunman involved in this, who did have a connection to the bank.” It seems that he was a previous worker.
According to Louisville police, additional deaths and injuries were prevented by the officers’ quick response. According to the officers’ response, they unquestionably saved people’s lives, according to Humphrey. “This was a tragic incident, but the officers’ heroic response ensured that no one was seriously hurt more than what happened.”
In the center of Kentucky’s biggest city, Main Street between North Floyd and North Preston Streets was clogged with police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. If a security guard was on duty at the bank where shots were fired on Monday, it wasn’t immediately clear.
Old National Bank CEO Jim Ryan stated in a statement that “the safety of Old National Bank employees and everyone we serve in our banking center locations is paramount.” “Keep everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers,” the bank executive urged.
The Louisville Bats, the Cincinnati Reds triple-A affiliate, play their home games at Slugger Field, where the incident took place. On Monday, while that team was out of town, police appeared to conduct witness interviews at the stadium, which served as their base of operations. Additionally, while police were dispatched to the Old National Bank, some of them had to disperse to respond to a shooting at Jefferson Community and Technical College, which was only a mile away, according to officials.
Officials declared that there was no connection between the two attacks and canceled classes at the school. Mitch McConnell, the minority leader in the Senate, and his wife Elaine Chao thanked the police on Monday for their quick and courageous work.
