Will there be a Season 5 of Barry? The fourth season of Bill Hader’s dark comedy on HBO is back, but will there be a fifth?
Alec Berg and Bill Hader’s Barry is about a hitman who grows weary of his job—not out of remorse, but boredom. Despite being terrible at acting at first, he discovers his true calling while on a “work” trip to kill someone for the Chechen mob.
The tale has changed, but at its core are the same questions: is there any hope for redemption for Barry? Will he get away with ruining so many people’s lives, or is he deservedly sentenced to spend the rest of his life feeling guilty about what he did?
After an icy double-cross at the end of Season 3, Barry is locked up at the beginning of Season 4. Will his journey continue into Season 5?
Will There Be A Barry Season 5?
The show ends after Season 4, so there won’t be a Barry Season 5. Bill Hader, the series’ star, revealed that there would be no Barry season 5 in an interview with Variety published in March 2023.
As soon as Barry was taken into custody by the SWAT squad, speculation began among viewers that his storyline might conclude at the end of the upcoming season. In an interview with Variety earlier this year, Hader confirmed as much.
As Berg and Hader pieced the script together, “an obvious ending presented itself… [but] we didn’t want to admit it to ourselves, you know what I mean,” he said.
“To me, there are still so many questions with the other characters and with Barry – and so many unsaid things. What happens in Season 4 is structurally radical in some ways, but it made sense for what I think the characters must go through and what I think the whole show is always headed towards.”
“You realize, well, we could pad a lot of stuff and make a story. But if we’re going forward, it ends in Season 4.”

What Will Happen In Barry’s Season 4?
Barry’s season 4 has little plot information. However, it will begin with Barry in prison after he is eventually apprehended for the murder of Janice Moss (Paula Newsome) in the season 3 finale.
Without giving too much away, Hader indicated that something happens in Barry season 4 that is “kind of strange, though thematically it makes a lot of sense.” When asked for more details, he told Variety, “You’ll notice it! It’s fun. It was a lot of fun but also incredibly bittersweet.”
