Following his stay in rehab, comedian John Mulaney and his artist wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler, are divorcing. Mulaney, who entered himself into rehab for 60 days late last year after suffering from alcoh0l and dr*g misuse, sought a divorce from Tendler three months ago, according to sources.
Mulaney’s divorce was confirmed by a spokeswoman, who added, “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.”
Tendler, an artist who works in various mediums and is a master’s candidate in NYU’s Costume Studies department, adds, “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage.”
“I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”
The “Big Mouth” star, 38, entered a Pennsylvania rehab center in December for 60 days of therapy for c0caine and alcoh0l addiction. He left the program in February and began outpatient treatment.
“John has completed 60 days in rehab and is now in outpatient sober care. He is doing well, although he is still not ready to return to work,” a source us.
Mulaney then announced his first set of tour dates after spending time in rehab earlier this month. From May 10 to 14, the comedian will perform a five-day residency titled “John Mulaney: From Scratch” at Manhattan’s City Winery.
Every performance has already sold out, but fans may still submit their names to a “wait list.” According to the venue, a “vaccine or negative COVID test is required” to enter.
The former “Saturday Night Live” writer has spoken publicly about his dr*g and alcoh0l addiction. In his stand-up shows and interviews, he frequently discussed his sobriety and the issues that led to it.
Mulaney revealed in a 2019 interview that he began drinking at 13. “I drank for attention,” he said. “I was outgoing, and then at 12, I wasn’t. I didn’t know how to act. And then I was drinking, and I was hilarious again.”
In an Esquire cover story, he stated that his drinking also drove him to use dr*gs. He claims that, while he never liked sm0king marijuana, he “loved” c0caine and experimented with pharmaceutical narcotics.
“I wasn’t a good athlete, so maybe it was some young male thing of ‘This is the physical feat I can do. Three Vicodin and a tequila and I’m still standing,'” he said. “Who’s the athlete now?”
In his 2012 remarkable “New In Town,” he also stated, “I don’t drink. I used to drink, drank too much, and had to stop. That surprises a lot of audiences because I don’t look like someone who used to do anything.”
Mulaney, on the other hand, struggled during the outbreak. He revealed in December that he had taken a job as a staff writer on Seth Meyers’ “Late Night” show to aid his mental health.
Before that, he participated in an odd “Late Night With Seth Meyers” episode in which he delivered a rambling lecture about the royal family punctuated by long pauses.

Fans and fellow comedians reacted positively to his choice to enter rehab.
However, some fans noticed that Tendler went silent on social media around the same time. Her Instagram account is now exclusively dedicated to her artwork.
Mulaney and Tendler, whom the comedian frequently mentions in his stand-up acts, allegedly met in the late 2000s on a group trip to Martha’s Vineyard.
Dan Levy, a friend and comedian, married them in July 2014 in Boiceville, New York, with the 1920s and woodland-deco motif.
Mulaney marked the occasion by posting a wedding photo on Instagram. “On a beautiful and perfect day, I married a beautiful and perfect woman,” he wrote in the caption. “I wish I could live it over and over again.”
Mulaney made numerous references to Tendler in his 2018 Netflix remarkable “Kid Gorgeous at Radio City,” according to his website, “She likes to think of her life as an ever-evolving art piece.”
He has also mentioned her on social media.
“Happy Valentines Day to the coolest, kindest, funniest, weirdest, most beautiful, most artistically inspiring person I have ever met,” Mulaney said beneath a photo of Tendler in an Instagram post in 2018.
“Happy Valentines Day to a woman who is a cross between Joan Didion and Erika Jayne. Anna, you might as well be the Sea Org because I’d sign a Billion Year Contract to be with you…Life would be so stupid without you,” he added.
