Are you waiting for your Social Security payment to be put into your bank account? Some recipients will receive their share of the first disbursement tomorrow, while others will have to wait until later in the month. Depending on your age and length of time as a Social Security recipient, the Social Security Administration will decide when to issue your payment.
Payments from the Social Security Administration are spread out across the month in several installments. Read on to learn how and when your payment date is calculated for your Social Security check.

How Are the Social Security Payment Dates Determined?
Payments are generally made on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month by the Social Security Administration. The day you receive your cheque is determined by your birth date.
- If your birthday comes between the 1st and 10th of the month, you will receive your payment on the second Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday comes between the 11th and 20th of the month, you will receive your payment on the third Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday comes between the 21st and 31st of the month, you will receive your reward on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Payments for SSI participants are typically made on the first of each month, with a few exceptions discussed below.
What if You Receive Both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income?
The payment schedule is different if you earned Social Security payments before May 1997 or if you received both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income. Instead of receiving payments on Wednesdays, you will now receive your Social Security payment on the third day of the month and your SSI payment on the first day of the month.
If the first or third day of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday, those payment dates are changed. Because April 1 fell on a Saturday this year, SSI beneficiaries received their April payments a day early on March 31, and Social Security recipients received their benefits on April 3.

What if You Don’t Receive Your Cheque Bon the Expected Date?
If your check does not come on the above-mentioned date due to your birth date or other circumstances, the Social Security Administration recommends waiting three more mailing days before contacting them.
If you haven’t gotten it yet, call 800-772-1213 to talk with a representative. (The SSA notes that wait times are reduced Wednesday through Friday and on weekday evenings between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
